Musescore saves backup files in a hidden .mscbackup folder, which is located in the same place as your project file.

There should be a file named .name_of_your_file.mscz~
where "name_of_your_file" is the name of your project file.
Copy it to another location, remove the ~ from the file name and try to open it.

Then it has no "~"! At least you can delete the file above.

But you should look for a file that has the extension ".mscz~". And it could be in the hidden folder ".mscbackup", but it doesn't have to be. If you don't see a ".mscbackup" folder, then ask on the Internet how to make hidden files and folders visible for your operating system.
