Guitar Tabs

It would be super useful if we could select a range of the guitar where we want the tabs to be placed. Like adding lowest and highest possible frets and from there just copy the standard notation into the tabs. Having the open strings as default and then changing each note individually as needed is really time consuming.

Thanks so much!

A plugin to do this more or less in this way was mooted, or even started, a few months ago. Apparently it has stalled.

In the meantime, you can save a lot of time by alternating between these methods, depending on what's possible at that particular location: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/selecting-elements#select-list-manu…
And for tablature, use shortcuts: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/entering-and-editing-tablature-nota…

Sounds interesting. Do you have a link for this mooted/started plugin?

It might be easiest if the notation had already been pasted to an unlinked TAB stave, or that the TAB was already in place by being a linked TAB stave. A plugin could then be used to optimise the string/fret positions according to user specified parameters. The plugin would not do the job of copy/paste and could be repeated with different parameters or a different selection of measures.

I can see your request working with unlinked tablature, as you suggest.

On paste there could be a modal dialog where you specify an upper or lower fret range. Even nicer, a modeless dialog that stays open until dismissed. For better or worse, currently it seems like the move is toward popups, as we have with the MuseScore 4's guitar capo.

Seeing the request materialize is a matter of gaining support here on .org and then posting an official request on Github, which you can do yourself, including a link to this discussion.
