Tablature Fingering

• May 26, 2024 - 22:33

Hi, Im new to Musescore 4 and I'd like to find out how to change tablature so that the fingering is higher up the neck. For example If my score starts on a A note then the Tab shows an open A string. I'd like to change this to say the 4th string 7th fret, still an A but in a different position.

If anyone could guide me on how to do this I would be most grateful to hear from you.

Thanks
Steve

In experimenting, I did not find any way of doing this. I had thought you might be able to do something like this in the "String Data" settings (Right-click the measure / Staff/Part Properties / Edit string data), but I couldn't find anything there.

Hopefully, someone more experienced than I will come along and tell us for sure, but at this point, it appears not.

"but I was hoping for a way to change an entire score. As in Making the firth fret the lowest point for tablature instead of open strings etc."

A such feature doesn't exist.
It's a question that has been debated for a long time (this one, for example, opened 10 years back... https://musescore.org/en/node/71121), but has never gone beyond this stage.

Recently, the idea of a plugin has been floated. It seemed to be well received by the possible author, @yonah_ag, but I don't see any further developments on this thread since two months: https://musescore.org/en/node/362515
Is the plugin being written, or not? I don't know.
