4.4.3 installation done repeatedly but does not take

• Dec 9, 2024 - 09:17

I have installed MuseScore 4.4.3 at least 5 times and saved several files in that version, yet when reopening the program after it's been closed for a few weeks, I find that it's yet again somehow reverted to Version 4.0.0.223472200 Revision 5485621 and is prompting me to again install Version 4.4.3. I'd be happy to ignore the prompt, but that doesn't work because if I try to load files I saved in Version 4.4.3, the program crashes. I am using MacOS Sonoma Version 14.6.1.

I would uninstall MuseScore and download the new version cleanly to see if that solves the problem, but from what I'm reading, it's actually almost impossible to uninstall MuseScore. This situation really frustrates me to no end.

Don't get me wrong: I love the fact that MuseScore is freeware and is a very useful program with regular updates, but there's something really wrong with the current update that has not been true about other updates that have updated easily when I installed them. Please help!

When you uninstall any program, it doesn't get rid of everything. About the only way to do that would be to run a search of your hard drive for Musescore and delete whatever comes up. Of course save your scores to a usb stick first.

OK, so I deleted MuseScore in the way https://support.apple.com/en-us/102610 suggested deleting programs not downloaded from the Apple Store, by simply using Command+Delete and then emptying the trash folder, having carefully checked and seen that my scores are in a different folder and wouldn't be deleted. I then downloaded the new version of MuseScore without the MuseHub (which I hadn't deleted and which seemed undeletable, as it claimed it was open and I couldn't see any way to close it). MuseScore is working so far and continued working after I closed and reopened it, but what concerns me is that I see MuseScore-Studio-4 among the "Locations" in my Finder folder, under my external hard drive (which I back up to), and if I click on it, it says "To install, drag the MuseScore Studio icon onto the Applications folder," which I already did for the umpteenth time. So I'm going to try rebooting and see if there is a problem again.
