Change playback octave on one instrument

• Oct 16, 2010 - 17:15

Hi,

I am transcribing pieces for a Drum and Bugle Corps, in which all the horns are in the key of G - Sopranos (trumpets), Altos (Mellophones), Baritones and Contrabasses (tuba). I am new to MuseScore.

I can create a score using the "G Horn" instrument for all staffs, but I'd like to hear playback where the "Baritone" notes are played back an octave lower than the "Soprano" notes, and the "Contrabass" notes are 2 octaves lower.

Is there a way to change the playback pitch on a single staff-line to an octave or two lower?

Thanks,

Ron

Right click on an empty part of a measure and choose "Staff Properties...".

From the Staff Properties dialog there is a section labeled "Play transposition" followed by an interval + number of octaves, up or down. Select "Down" and change the octave to "1".

Once again, browsing through the forum gave me ideas on where to look. As it turned out, I had written the entire score with the "Notes" setting on "Concert Pitch". So I turned that option off, and of course, the Baritone staffs were 2 octaves too high (plus a third because of their key). It did not take to long to take each staff, bring it down 2 octaves plus a third, and then it DOES play an octave lower like it should. Thanks to all the previous posters who gave me the right ideas of things to try.

I was using the SoundFont "Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra" and I also made this Concerto in C Major for Flute and Harp. But I want to make the Flute Solo play an octave lower. Every time I changed the octave on the Flute staff, it plays the same pitch and the same notes. Is there any way to fix that?

How are you changing the octave? Assuming it really is a regualr flute that is notated at concert pitch, you should simply select the notes you want to transpose and hit Ctrl+Down.

Is that doens't solve your problem, please post the score you are having problems with and explain in more detail exactly what you are doing, what you are expect to happen, and what happens instead.
