Copy and Paste Measures

• Nov 28, 2015 - 22:04

Hi, I'm brand new to Musescore and have been playing with it for the last few hours. I've been learning (and playing) the saxophone for the last few years. My lessons have moved into transcription, and I've been working on Hittin' the Jug by Gene Ammons. I was using VexTab Music Notation (a Google Doc add on) but thought Musescore would be easier (and I'm sure that it will once I get over the learning hump).

I entered the first two measures that I transcribed from Hittin' the Jug. Those measures are repeated a number of times. When I copy and paste, measures 1 and 2 are on the first line, but measures 3, 4, and 5 are on the second line. I would think that when pasting, the space on the sheet would be the same. Any ideas why that is not happening?

Thanks!

This isn't really related to copy and paste; you see the same thing if you entered the music manually. Basically, the first system has a little less room for notes because of the time signature, and in this case it's just barely not enough room for the third measure. Change the last 128th note of the group in bar 1 to a 64th - thus eating the rest - and you'll see now there is enough room for a third measure.

If you want to force a line break after bar 4, click the barline and press Enter, use use the line break icon from the Breaks & Spacers palette (eg, click measure then double click icon, or drag icon to measure). You can also sequeeze the notes closer by selecting the measures you want to affect and pressing "{" (shortcut for Layout / Decrease Stretch), thus allowing three measures to fit on the first system if you prefer.
