Full measure rest not restored when notes deleted in 3/8 time
I have some 3/8 time music and, when I use Note entry and delete the three notes in the bar (deleting the last one first) I end up with either three 1/8th note rests or a dotted 1/4 beat rest, depending on the exact sequence of what I delete first.
MuseScoreConnect contains Beethoven's Für Elise by 'martinmorley' This shows the problems in bars 35 and 52.
I say that this is a bug because I believe that an empty bar, for almost any time signature, should have a full rest in it.
The workaround is to select all three notes (not in Note entry mode) and delete them. Then the full bar rest replaces them.
Thank you

just select the measure and hit delete

Thank you for your response, Jojo. However, perhaps you did not read my original posting fully. I already know the workaround.
I repeat my bug report: as a bar is emptied of notes, one at a time, MuseScore should replace them with rests that conform to the best standards of music engraving. One of these standards says that a full rest is required in an empty bar in all the usual time signatures. In my 3/8 time example, MuseScore is inconsistent and sometimes gives a dotted quarter-bar rest in an empty 3/8-time bar and sometimes three eighth-bar rests. It should always give a full bar rest.

I did read your post. My intention was to provide you with a workaound, easier that to select all notes individually.
I'm not sure that what you reports is really a bug, or rather by design? But I'd rather let the developres answer that...
To work the way you want it, MuseScore needs to track whether the note you delete is the last non-rest item in the measure.

Thanks for your suggestion. I still say it's a bug. If the present algorithm for replacing deleted noted by rests was a 'feature', it would be consistent. A completely empty bar would always be three 1/8 rests or a dotted 1/4 rest . However, this presently depends on the order in which you delete the notes, And, as you noted, the single bar rest (which is the right result) is only obtained by a completely different input sequence.
Do you think this posting has already been noted as a bug report, or do I have to do anything else? I have v. little experience of these software forums.

Well here is the place to ask for support ancd check whether something is a bug or not, to actually report a bug, use the issue tracker

In what sense does it depend on the order? Or even on the time signature? As far as I know, MuseScore is perfectly consistent in this - deleting notes one at a time always replaces them with individual rests, regarless of the time values of the notes or the time signaturw of the measure. The *type* of individual rest used may indeed depend on the order in which you delete the notes, but that's also logical as far as I can tell (there is an alogirthm for determining when rests can be combined), and in any case, the rests so created are not not to be left in place permanently if you are trying to clear out a whole measure.
And deleting the whole meausre contents at once - by selcting the entire measure and hitting Delete - is the correct way to create a whole measure rest in any time signaturw (except that currently doesn't work in certain time signaturs like 5/4, but that's already been reported and already fixed from what I can see in the trunk).

A bug report has been opened #13624: Deleted notes one by one in bar do not result in a full rest.
I commented there that this is by design like Marc explained just above. I put the close the issue there.
