Fretboard diagrams
Hi Folks,
It's been quite a while since I last visited. :)
Circa v. 1.2.
Just downloaded V 2.1.0.
It seems the chords diagrams have improved since the last time I was here.
At the time I was requesting the ability to insert them just below the chord symbols
and this has been implemented. So that's great!
I am trying to learn how to create new fretboard diagrams and add them to
the existing palette or create a new palette.
It talks about right clicking on the palette (Fretboard Diagrams) to access
a menu that will allow you to create a new palette.
I see "Insert New Palette", however that and all the others are greyed out,
except for "Save Palette".
Any tips on how to create a new palette (to add new diagrams)?
Also, can we organize our custom palettes as we wish?
That is, drag chord diagrams around and put them where we want?
Also I noticed that when you hover over a diagram you see the chord name (after a delay).
Will we be able to place a chord name right on top of the diagrams, in the palette itself?

Use Advanced or Custom palettes to show Fretboard Diagram palette. Then drag a diagram over into the score. Now right-click on the diagram (not the palette) and change its Properties to create a new fretboard diagram. You can now [Ctrl][Shift]drag the new diagram onto your palette.

I have been able to create new diagrams on my score.
I haven't been able to drag these new diagrams back to the palette, nor create a fresh new palette yet.
Just tried Ctrl-Shft but nothing happened.

I just discovered how to create a new Workspace and then Custom palette!
So now the full menu for palettes becomes available.
I was also able to now drag the new diagrams into the new palette.
So big progress! :)
Questions?
Is the size of the new palette unlimited?
Can I organize the chords in the palette in folders or in a certain way, to manage 30, 40
50+ chords?
Also as I asked before, can we name the chords inside the palette so their names are visible right on top of the diagrams for easy identification, instead of hovering the mouse over them and waiting?
Also, so you've got your chord symbols going over the bars.
Now you want to add chord diagrams below each chord.
How do you accomplish this quickly and efficiently?
The first diagram is no problem. It snaps into the correct place below the first chord.
But the second chord diagram isn't as smart. It doesn't snap into place below the second
chord symbol.
Any tricks to this?

OK I see there is a bit of a learning curve to this. :)
I have changed the rest in the bars from whole note to quarter notes.
This allowed me to position the chord diagrams better and allowed me to enter
the chord diagrams quickly into the correct position!

I wonder what is the correct protocol here for asking more questions?
Should I continue to add them to this thread if they are related, or start a new thread?
A 'strange' thing just happened as I wanted to add a new chord diagram to my new palette.
I was able to select any of my 10+ chord symbols, except for one!
All the others turned a blue color as I selected them.
The one I wanted to select stayed black!
What would the reason be for this?

Best to start new threads for questions that are mostly unrelated to the original. This sounds pretty unrelated. So I'd start a new thread, and be sure to attach the score in question and give precise steps to reproduce the problem.
My guess is it will turn out that diagram actually lives on a different page but was dragged right off the page and onto another one. That is known to create unselectable objects.

I'm not sure what happened exactly, but a few minutes later as I was playing around with the score, the diagram once again turned blue and could be selected!

I added a custom fretboard diagram a few days ago and fear it has disappeared.
When you go Advanced should it not always be there next to the regular Fretboard Diagrams?
Do you have to do something special to save it?

They should be in the Workspace/Custom palette

Thanks I still am not clear how to manipulate this and work with it.
In your photo I see a few choices at the bottom (Filtro, Ispettore, Tavol)
that I don't see in my program.
The only thing I see at the bottom is the name of my Workspace.
I don't see any Custom palette anywhere either?
Also how do you delete a palette you have created?
I hope this palette I created stays this time.
I don't have to save it?

If the name of your workspace is not basic or advanced, you are not in a custom workspace. In Shoichi's picture, the Italian says that. The other two are custom. When you create a custom workspace, you should be able to ctrl-shift drag you new diagram to a palette and it will stay there. You need to make sure you have Enable editing checked on the right click menu of the custom palette.

Just to be clear - while MuseScore does have a command to allow you to save a palette, you don't need to use it normally. It is there to help you transfer palettes to a new machine, to a a new workspace, or to restore them after a factory reset. Once created, palettes stay in the workspace you created them in.
So I'm guessing you created a custom workspace (necessary to customize palettes in the first place), added your new palette or added a new diagram to the existing palette in that worksapce, then for some reason left that workspace and switched back to Advanced. Just switch back to your custom workspace. Or maybe you deleted it, perhaps via factory reset, in which case, if you had saved it, you could now reload it.

I'm still not 100% clear on the difference between custom and non-custom workplaces/palettes.
Intuitively, I would think when you create your own workplace it should be something that is custom?

So if I create my own custom workspace named 'My space' I am not in a custom workspace?

I was able to do this.
Fortunately, this time, when I opened the file again the new workspace/palette was still there! :)

Typo in the above - if the name *is* Basic or Advanced, it is not your custom one. Yes, anything you create yourself is custom. As I said, you just have accidentally deleted it or switched back to Advanced last time. Workspaces and palettes normally stick around.
