Hi. I am a beginner of MuseScore...
However, I agree with the translation to Japanese for Japanese users.
I would like to support Souya and this project.

Hi kimikazu,
In order to learn how the translation system on musescore.org works, here are 3 steps to follow:
1. choose one of the menu pages at the right side on the English version of the website http://www.musescore.org/en
2. let's say you took the Download page, then click on the translate tab just below the page title
2. scroll down to Japanese and click on the add translation link
3. replace all the English text into Japanese but leave the special markup in
Once finished click on the submit button at the bottom of the page.
You will now see the menu page popping up on the Japanese version: http://www.musescore.org/ja
Most likely the menu item will still be in English, but don't worry about that, I'll correct this manually.
If you have question, don't hesitate to leave a comment. Also, don't worry to do something wrong. Everything is safely stored so we can always go back to a previous revision of a page.

I forgot to mention: the Japanese teaser page can be translated via http://www.musescore.org/en/node/1 -> translate tab -> edit link
In reply to Translating the teaser page by Thomas
Thank you for replies.
I've just tried to translate "Download" page.
If you find mistakes or faults caused by my misunderstanding of the system,
please tell me...
In reply to Thanks by kimikazu
Hi kimikazu,
That went perfect! I changed the menu title, so it looks perfect now.
I added a Japanese forum in the meantime and used Google Translate to translate 'General questions' and 'Documentation'. Not sure whether Google did a good job so if you could check it out: http://www.musescore.org/ja/forum
In reply to Perfect by Thomas
Hi,
I checked ja/forum page. It works good!
However, I felt a bit strange for the translation of "Last post" and "Last reply" .
"最終" can be changed to "最近の"(but the meaning is "latest", not "last").
Anyway, I think it is good translation now.
I will continue to work another pages... if you have priority of translation,
please tell me.
In reply to Forum by kimikazu
Hi kimikazu,
The translation of 'Last' has been edited to 最近の. Should be ok now.
There is no priority, but I would do the handbook as last step. So, after the translation of the normal menu pages which doesn't take much time, I would move over to the software and finally the handbook. The software is quite a tough job, which can take some time. Anyway, with the normal menu pages being translated, we can already make appeal to Japanese users which a very good start.
In reply to Translation edited by Thomas
Hi admin,
I also confirmed your editing in the forum.
I think the menu and the handbook are important for Japanese users, too.
To tell the truth, I am only familiar to Finale notation suite long time, so I did not this software at all.
I think almost Japanese know Finale or Sibelius and a few people know musicTex, because no information
written in Japanese.
Recently I use the MuseScore in Mac, Windows, and also my Ubuntu 8 notebook.
All versions are working with great performance now.
I strongly recommend Japanese users to test MuseScore!
In reply to Fast editing! by kimikazu
Hi kimikazu,
Admin is my administrator account, sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for the background info and great you are promoting MuseScore. Reading your comment, it seems necessary that software has to be translated in Japanese to make any chance of adoption. So, I guess your efforts will pay off enormously and we should see the number of Japanese MuseScore users go up.

Hi thomas,
I am sorry to miss information from your first e-mail. Once I look your name...
I have respect for you and developers of MuseScore for providing GPL notation tool.
Anyway, I would like to continue to support your great job as possible.

kimikazu,
Let me know when you have translated one or two pages of the handbook on the website. I convert those pages into PDF handbooks that are included with the installation.
Do you know of some good open source fonts that include all the characters for Japanese? I don't have any on my computer currently.
David
In reply to Japanese Handbook by David Bolton
Hi David,
If you use Ubuntu >8, Japanese font packages, ttf-kochi-mincho, ttf-sazanami-mincho (as serif) / ttf-kochi-gothic, ttf-sazanami-gothic (as sanserif) or ipafont are available in jp repository.
Please check the environment.
In Windows OS, however, I do not have non-Japanese version and do not know exactly...
Adobe support CJK language or multilingual pack ?

In reply to Font for PDF converting by kimikazu
I used the teaser page to experiment with. Could you take a look at it and make sure there are no problems with the text.
I used Sazanami Mincho (for body text) and Sazanami Gothic (for heading text).
In reply to I used the teaser page to by David Bolton
Hi David,
I checked the PDF. It looks beautiful and I think your approach,
Sazanami Mincho (for body text) and Sazanami Gothic (for heading text) is perfect.
If I can say an additional comment,
there are some person who are absorbed in putting in type Japanese text with various font family.
Others may recommend different font setting.
Hi Thomas,
Thank you for the message about translation.
As you can see, my English writing skill is not high, but I am interested to help translate to Japanese.
(My English reading skill is higher than writing skill. It's the English educational system in Japan.)

Hi,
My name is Ken Oba from Japan.
I just started translating mscore_xx.ts to Japanese.
Is there anyone who can help me out or already going this?
In reply to mscore_xx.ts translation by kenoba
Hi Ken,
To my knowledge, there is no one translating the software currently. In order to start:
Once you have some strings translated, you can post the ts file in the forum. We'll commit to the repository and it will be available in the next MuseScore prerelease.

Hi Werner, Thomas:
I have translated some part of it but not completed yet. However I attach my work for anybody else.
I need some feed back.
Thanks,

In reply to Hi Werner, I have translated by kenoba
Hi kenoba,
The file has been committed. After the next prerelease, you will be able to test your translation yourself: install the prerelease and overwrite the mscore_ja.qm file by the one you can make with QT linguist by File -> Release as: mscore_ja.qm

Hi, everyone,
To help to write Japanese Handbook, all pages of English Handbook have been just translated to Japanese as a first draft.
They may have incorrect expressions,. mistranslating, and/or typos.
Please discuss here or //www.musescore.org/ja/forum/40 .
In reply to First draft was submitted by kimikazu
Great work kimikazu. For you interest, I added the Google Analytics for the past month. Even though Google only indexed a few Japanese pages so far, it pulls already in quite a lot of Japanese speaking visitors.
Hi.
My PC was out of order.
I accessed the page of MuseScore because I was able to repair PC. Then,I was surprised for most on the page to have been translated into Japanese.
I'm sorry for being not able to help the translation.
Thank you for Mr.kimikazu and other people.
I am sorry for my poor English.
In reply to Long time no see. by Souya
Dear Souya,
Souya's first step of Japanese translation has given us motivation to join the translation work.
My translated part of handbook is a draft, including misinterpretations, free translations and misunderstanding.
I had no time to check my manuscript one by one, so I think the handbook pages should be refine correctly.
We need your help to compose Japanese handbook.
Thanks.
Hello.
The music is a beginner, but I like MuseScore because I am easy to use it very much.
May you help it because a list of tones and an offline manual of the PDF do not become Japanese if you like?
The English cannot talk that much, but is honored if I can help it.

Hi Tomohiro,
You have now the permissions to translate menu & handbook pages on musescore.org. Via the "Translator assigments" menu link in the right sidebar, you will be able to see the status of the Japanese translation on musescore.org. See this screencast http://screenr.com/JPM how it works.
For translating the musescore software, go to the translation server.
If you have questions or remarks, feel free to post any time. Welcome on board!
In reply to Transfer Instruments List and OfflineManual by Tomohiro_
I may have been to quick when reading your comment.
In case you wish to translate the instruments list, download this file, open it in a text editor and translate the English instrument names into the Japanese ones. Once you are finished, upload the file back to a comment on this issue.
Regarding the Japanese manual in pdf format: We have some font issues converting the online manual into a pdf. Maybe you can give it a try: open the print friendly online manual and save it as a pdf. If you succeed, let us know.
Thank you very much.

You might like to check this PDF by Hiroshi Tachibana (I think)
In reply to Transfer Instruments List and OfflineManual by Tomohiro_
Thank you for thomas, lasconic.
The musical instrument list is already completed soon.
But a thing and the adjustment of the name plural musical instruments which there is that there are some musical instruments which do not understand a name in Japan may be need.
I want to display anyone by the name of a musical instrument knowing as far as I can have the first person operate it.
Oh, you should not argue here, but there is one suggestion.
When you added it to a list, the first page is displayed by the name of the "name" tag, but cannot have you add an option to display with a "short-name" tag?
I make it Japanese to have you choose the musical instrument, but a name is too long under the present conditions and reduces a size and cannot go unless I turn down character string.
I want to begin the PDF manual after the making of the list was over.
The PDF of Mr. TACHIBANA is a simple manual, but I think that I serve as a reference.
In reply to Thanks! by Tomohiro_
Hi Tomohiro,
The instrument.xml file can be localized. This means that you can add or remove instruments like you wish. I hope this answers your question.
For your second question, I will have to pass this one to someone else. I have currently no good advice how to handle this.
In reply to Thanks! by Tomohiro_
The PDF handbooks are created automatically from the online handbook:
http://musescore.org/ja/%E3%83%8F%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%83%96%E3%83%83%E…
This week I will spend some time on getting it to work for Japanese.
Hi, everyone
"Instruments_ja.xml" I finished so the Japanese version of the public.
It may represent an incorrect name has been omitted as much as possible.
The Japanese name of the instrument contains one byte long so Japanese.
This file is WindowsXP, WindowsVista Windows7 of MuseScore0.9.5 and make sure you are correctly displayed in MacOS and Linux does not check.
MacOS and Linux MuseScore Please send me the correct results can display them in.
We will also publish a list for checking instrument, please point out to me as if there is a mistake.
Tomohiro
In reply to Japanease "Instruments_ja.xml" by Tomohiro_
Hi Tomohiro,
The instruments_ja.xml file has been committed to the repository. It will be available in the next nightly build. I'm sure someone will test it on Mac & Linux as well.
Hello, I'm new to the forums.
My name's kiki, from Japan. I've been a MuseScore user since Version 0.9.4 but haven't contributed to anything, so I thought it'd be great if I could help MuseScore in some way.
It seems the English Handbook has been updated every time a new version is released; when it comes to the Japanese-translated one, however, that's not how it seems. It felt a little sad, that's why I thought I'd like to take part in translating it.
And also, I plan to translate "News" on the top page of the website. It should be available in Japanese too, needless to say.
Thank you for making MuseScore possible.

In reply to May I translate musescore.org? by kiki
Hi kiki,
Thanks for stepping up. You have now permission to translate/update the Japanese handbook & menu pages.
In order to get a post featured on the front page, simply make one in the Japanese forum and contact me again via my contact form or even the general contact form.
That forum post can be a translation of any of the news from the English front page, or anything else in fact which is worth to be featured on the front page.
In reply to Front page posts by Thomas
Thank you for the quick reply!
I think I'm going to do with the front page posts first. Honestly I don't quite know what to do next, so please let me know if I make any mistakes.
In reply to I'll do my best! by kiki
In order to proceed translating outdated content: check the 'Website content' menu item under the translate block. Next follow the Japanese link. You can now see the translation status for Japanese. You can filter based on content type.
For example: I noticed that the Japanese captions of the Getting Started videos on the front page are not translated yet. You can filter on caption and then translated them one by one. Start with part 1 and proceed up to part 8. You can also choose to update the handbook pages by filtering on book.
Let me know if you need more info. I'm very glad to help you out!
In reply to What to do next by Thomas
Thank you for the explanation! First of all, I just translated all the titles of the Getting Started videos. Of course I'm planning to do with the body fields too, one by one. Now I think I'll make a stab at "MuseScore 0.9.6 released By thomas_ - Posted on June 8th, 2010," which is what I wanted to do the most!
In reply to Made it a little! by kiki
It would have been better to translate the whole caption all at once because now, when I look to the Japanese translation status, all the captions appear to be translated which is not the case. Another option, in case a translation is not complete yet, is to check the 'This translation needs to be updated' checkbox. If you check that in the form, the translation will be appear as 'Out-of-date' in the translation overview.
Feel free to translate any post and let me know when it's done so it can be featured on the front page. Thanks!
In reply to Better by Thomas
Oh I'm sorry. Actually I felt the same and thought of checking the form, but I was not sure "Out-of-date" was the case therefore I left it as it was. I'll do it better next time!
In reply to Better by Thomas
Hi,
I just translated the whole caption of Part 1 Score Setup, but the Japanese caption I made doesn't seem to appear on the video. It still shows the original English one instead. Could you tell me how to fix it?
In reply to Doesn't seem to work by kiki
Hi Kiki,
Translated captions are the only thing that need to have extra handling after translation. I need to upload the captions manually to youtube. I did this for the first video now and it looks like it's ok. See at http://musescore.org/ja
One thingy: I saw you added your name in the translation. The current policy is to attribute all the translators on a specific page on musescore.org for each release (example 0.9.6). Your name will be added as well for the next release. So I removed your name. I hope you don't feel offended by it.
In reply to Manually uploaded it to youtube by Thomas
Thanks so much, Thomas. I didn't imagine it needed your manual updates. Now I'm glad to see it went well. By the way, after seeing the video I noticed something and edited it again. Please be sure to. Thank you!
And there's one thing I need to ask you. I have this feeling that I'll have to edit the caption again in the future, because I think the source (Japanese translation of the software) needs some improvements. So, am I supposed to let you know every time I edit the Getting Started videos?
P.S.
I thought I'd do that just because I saw someone had done the same. Sorry about that. I'm proud that my name will be added there as one of the contributors!
In reply to Glad to see it went well by kiki
You don't need to inform me when you updated a caption. I check it every now and then and update all the changed captions. I check this every 2 weeks. However, feel free to push on a faster update. No problems with that at all. I can imagine that you wish to see you work in place as soon as possible.
