Lyric Hyphens not consistent in 2.2

• May 9, 2018 - 05:03

Hello,
I am unable to get hyphens to show consistently between lyric syllables. I enter the hyphen but it disappears when i start to type the next syllable on the next note. I can force a hyphen by using "ctrl -"; however, the hyphen may not line properly between the syllables. This occurs when I have two adjacent syllables not separated by any notes. I am wondering why just typing a hyphen, instead of a space, is not working?

Thanks, Sam

It appears the issue has too do with note spacing. If the notes are too close, Musescore ignores the hyphen. Notes that are further apart do display the hyphen. Is that the correct behaviour? It seems that Musescore should automatically increase the note spacing to allow the hyphen as it does with the length of each syllable.

No, it doesn't ignore them, it just doesn't show them. If you stretch out the affected measures you'll see them.
You can enforce that by increasing the "Minimum note distance" (in Style/General/Measure) from the default of 0.25 to e.g. 0.35.
The next major version of MuseScore will have a better and more direct way to achieve this.
