Trouble with Real-Time (automatic) input
Hello!
I'm a first time forum topic writer looking for some help with a composition problem I'm trying to solve. I'd like to be able to input into musescore a rhythm that I'll be playing from my little midi keyboard which is very irregular / not connected to a tempo per se.
I've gone into preferences --> note input and I'm unclear about what the "Delay between notes in automatic realtime mode" means. What is _______ms and how does it compare with bpm? The basic tempo for the first section of the piece is quarter note = 156
Essentially, I'm wondering if musescore can dictate a complicated rhythm or if I'd be better off with a different software program.
Thanks in advance for your help!
best,
Eve

ms is milli seconds. BPM means beats per minute but really is quarter notes per minute

Cool thanks - is there a formula to convert ms to bpm?

There's 60 seconds to the minute and milli is a thousands, so divide/multiply by 60,000
To answer the bigger question, though:
If your rhythm isn't one that you can play along with a metronome and can be easily represented using standard notation (simple division of the beats, etc), then no software is going to magically turn it into something readable that actually reflects what you played. It's not limitation of software so much as with standard notation itself. Best you can do is decide for yourself what approximation you'd like to see - the best compromise between readability and actually reflecting your intent - and then entering that rhythm, either manually or by playing it in real-time.
To some extent, you can get MuseScore to help with this using the "manual" real-time method, because at least then you can tap in an irregular tempo.
