.abc files
I'm trying to import an .abc file. I have activated the .abc plug-in as far as I can tell. The File -> Open window doesn't refer to .abc files as a possible file to open.
What should I do?

Start by going to Plugins / Plugin Manager and make sure you have activated the ABC Import plugin - just put a checkmark next to it in the list at left and hit OK. Now you can run the plugin from the Plugins menu. When you do that you'll see a dialog box where you can either type ABC code, paste it in, or click a button to load an ABC file.

I went to the "Plugin Manager" before but I got a bit lost at that point :-)

For pre-installed plugins like the abc import tool https://musescore.org/en/handbook/plugins#enable-disable-plugins tells how to use them.

After activating the abc-importer plugin through the plugin manager, go to the "Plugins" menu again. Now you will see "ABC Import" at the bottom of the list. Selecting that will open the file browser to let you find the abc file to import.
