How to un-connect note stems?
I want to write 4 consecutive 16th notes, and I want the first two to be connected by a bar, but I want the second two to not be connected at the stem.
Here's what I want it to do:

Never mind I figured it out!
For those of you who don't know still, I clicked the button on the left that says 'Beam Properties' and I dragged the eighth note which when hovered over says 'No Beam' over to the note I wanted beamless, then it did it for me. ^^ Woo! :D

Thank you. How about connecting 2 quavers together, as soon as clicked on the 2 of them it connects them with the previous 2 together making it 4 but I need it as 2 pairs of 2 in each, how is that achieved please?

Just because you've known for 6 years doesn't mean someone will know on the next 5 years... there, it's a comment on a 11 years post

Pracxtically speaking, though, it's almsot always better to start a new post in cases like this. because discussion of whatever version was current 6 - or 11 - years ago is seldom relevant to the version that is current today. Often things have changed and it just confuses the issue to be reading advice that worked in 2012 and trying to apply it in 2023.

So how do you do it in Musecore4 in 2023 ?

Now I've a new question: Is there any way to make my beam properties automatically /not/ connect notes? :o
In reply to New Question by jakeywunder
No way to get it to break beams automatically, but breaking them is a lot easier than what you described. Simply select a note or notes - including ctrl-A to select all - then double click the icon. So you can break all beam I your entire score in just a few clicks if you like.

While experimenting with beam removal (and it works just fine), I discovered quite by accident that a note's stem can be removed as well! Seems the stem can be selected by itself with a single click and dragged away from the head. In the case of a quarter note, this leaves just a big black dot on the staff. The decapitated stem, meanwhile, can be dragged anywhere in the score! Not that I'd have any reason to do this, but it certainly is interesting!
Of course, this isn't the same as double-clicking the stem, which allows it to be lengthened or shortened by dragging the little square with the mouse..
Note: You can't delete the stem altogether, but deleting the note head automatically deletes the stem no matter how far away it is.

Did this but no answer for me. What a complication.

Bets to start a new thread for your specific problem, and attach your specific score and describe in more detail what you want to do, what you tried, what you expected to see happen, and what happened instead. The current Handbook does describe the correct procedure in general, so we will need that sort of information to understand what is going wrong for you.
Have you read the handbook on Beams? There is a palette to stopping and starting beams:

The palette isn't working for stopping and starting beams. maybe my version is too new and not incorporating this feature. Any other options?
In reply to The palette isn't working… by mpvick
It definitely is working for this. Even 6 years later...
thanks, this really helped
Thanks! This helped SOOO Much!
Why is the web address there? it's useless to understand note stems. Please fix, thanks. The page is advertising not showing the answer. UH!

first of all, that link was posted 6 years ago and can no longer be changed. It points to the version 1 page, which is mostly still applicable. The new handbook page is [here](https://musescore.org/en/handbook/beams].
Read the page, then ask questions if you still do not understand.
