How do I DELETE rests?
Been using Musecore for a few days now and have first draft parts written, but now I'm at the point of wanting to tweak them. HOW? I have notes that are the wrong length but I cannot seem to delete rests so I can then change the length of notes, I click on the rests but they just go grey and stay there. Then when I try to change the length of the note all kinds of crazy stuff happens.
So say I have a crotchet rest and a crotchet, but what I want is a quaver rest and a dotted crotchet instead. I click on the crotchet rest, hoping it will disappear so I can then enter a quaver rest instead, and then put a dot on my crotchet, but the crotchet rest just goes grey and WILL NOT DISAPPEAR! Any guidance to a handbook section or tutors on editing your music please?

For example I need to put a crotchet here (picture attached). HOW? All my attempts have just ended up with a load of weird rests. HOW DO I DELETE THESE RESTS so I can insert my crotchet? Thanks for any tips, it's driving me crazy.

select the 1st rest, press 5 (shortcut for duration of a quarter note or rest), enter the note you want .

Thanks for this patient and kind reply. But what if I want to make the C a dotted minim?
In the attached example I can't change the first quaver into a crotchet, because I can't work out how to delete the rest.

Select the rest, enter the note you want on it, and the note will overwrite anything that conflicts with it. In your specific request it will also overwrite the b that follows, but this is necessary to keep 4 beats in the measure.

But my b is important in my tune!!!

If you want a dotted crotchet on beat one, it will overwrite the b. You need to rethink the rhythm, because at first glance you don't want to change the next measure.

If I select the quaver and press crotchet, I get this which is not what I want. I want the rest to disappear!

then select the rest
You need to select what ever is at the place you want to start changing/entering.

Thanks again for your help, still pretty baffled but I've made some progress and I think I've found the relevant section of the handbook now ;) Best wishes.

Are you saying that you want to begin the bar with a dotted quarter?
See attached .pdf
If you want the 8th note "c" (after dotted quarter) to be a "b", simple change it with down arrow or mouse.
The software always keeps the correct amount of beats and subdivisions. It does not know when you are working in reverse, so it reverts to its prime objective to keep proper division.
If you're new let me suggest you review the note input part of handbook and you'll get what you want. I know its frustrating at first, but it is simple(r) when you know the procedure.
Counter question: how to delete silence?
Right, by making noise AKA music -> notes...
