Acciaccatura

• Apr 7, 2019 - 15:19

Whenever I use the shortcut of the forward slash to enter an acciaccatura, it enters the note nicely after I hit the forward slash. The the very next note that I enter wipes out the nice acciaccatura that was just entered, unfortunately. I have tried lots of different ways to use this shortcut, but I just can't get it to work. I'm using an iMac.

All platforms are the same. Since grace notes are essentially ornaments to MuseScore, I suggest you add them when you are trying to take a break from entering notes, adding a grace notes messes up the workflow of adding notes. This is what I do.

Or hit the right cursor twice. But I agree, this is awkward. Maybe, what we should really do is make it so hitting a letter key actually replaces the grace note itself, so you can enter a pitch directly? It's always bugged me a little I need to switch to use cursor keys to get the pitch I want (although since my hands are now already there, I guess that's why I've always tolerated needing to cursor right to move on)

I use grace notes quite a bit, and I've often wished for a better way to enter them. I don't know what I really expect out of a good workflow.

Pressing /// to enter 3 grace notes is very convenient. The most common modifications are an arrow or ctrl+shift+ an arrow, so not having access to letters has never really bothered me. In my case of three grace notes on a note, they often make a scale so it never bothered too much to press arrows (up, down, right as appropriate). Chords in the grace notes work fine. There is much about the current situation that I would not want changed.

The only difficult thing is to add a slur from the first of multiple grace notes to the main note. You must leave note input mode to do this.
