When having added square frames to measure numbers, and subsequently adding or deleting measures, the measure numbers lose their frames for all measures following the point of addition or deletion.

Can you tell step by step how you added the frames. It works fine for me.
Edit: I suspect you are missing the final step, which is to click the S to the right of the Frame selector in the inspector. You may need to scroll to see it.

That was it, pressing the "S" now causes the measure number frames (squares) to persist when I add/delete measures. I did not know about "setting the style". Thanks.
On a side note, if I have added frames to existing measure numbers, and then add/delete intervening measures, perhaps the frames for existing measure numbers should persist, and not go away.
If you delete a measure then all successive measures have a new number and therefore have been reentered and the style reverts to the default. Measure numbers might be an exception to when you expect this, but it works the same for all text types. MuseScore does not look at the surrounding text of the same type to decide which style to use, it always uses the default style.
If you set the measure to always show numbers in Measure Properties, then everything should persist.
If you have a specific case where things are not working as explained, please attach a score and steps to reproduce the problem.

If a measure number changes, then I expect the measure number to revert to the style, not the specific changes made to them by using the select all similar items method. This is the equivallent of adding new staff texts, they follow the style, not the changes made to another staff text on the same note.

Mike: Understood.
Marc: It does, but that's not what I want; I want measure numbers every 5 measures, and when I add a measure, as Mike indicated, some measures will lose their number, and some will gain it.
All: Should I mark this issue as done? Is that mine to do?
