Anacrusis/pick up (and some editing problems)
I'm having some difficulties editing a midi file I've brought into MuseScore. I can't get rid of rest padding in the first measure which picks up on the third beat and I can't work out how to fix a minor transcription error. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's driving me a bit potty. I have been poring over the manual but I can't find the answers. Am I right in thinking the manual is a little behind the software?
I have documented what I have tried in an attachment.

Instead of spending several minutes explaining and writing things, and adding pictures, simply attach this Midi file. It takes three seconds, and those who help you can tell you how to proceed more safely and quickly too.

Ok, thanks.
Like this? 2RV532-1 Score.mscz
So, for the anacrusis: in first measure, click half rest + Shift + click quarter rest -> Ctrl + Del (assuming you are using version 3 of Musescore? ) It remains one beat (1/4) as expected.
And for the 16ths, simply select them and press "4" (on click eighth note symbol in toolbars)
I changed also a setting in the Midi Import Panel by unticking "Clef changes" -> Apply

Hmm...
Mentioned in the PDF attachment:
...I would like to match the original by:
2. changing the first figure to two semiquavers.
(i.e., two 16th notes, similar to the end of measure 4)
So... maybe like this:
3RV532-1 Score.mscz

Yeah, that's right, much more likely/surely. I looked too quickly at the first attached image.

Well, after checking (it is a concerto for 2 mandolins by Vivaldi), it was neither really one nor the other. :)
They are indeed sixteenth notes, but the anacrusis only contains the time of one eighth note (1/8), see the other instruments in the score - image below.
So, either it is hidden/or not: RV532- eighth.mscz
or, it is deleted, always with the same delete function (Ctrl + Del) : RV532- eighth1.mscz

@Gilesh. So, to summarize, you need first to know the expected result (with an anacrusis of one eighth note duration, or a quarter note/one beat, as happened in the Midi file? )
This done, you have to delete the unnecessary beats (Ctrl + Del), and then for the value of the remaining notes, you edit, cut and paste, or clear and re-enter the right notes/values (there are many ways to do things here)

Yes - you're right. That's what it is, though not the Malipiero score. My copy of that won't scan properly. There are some extra dots in MuseScore that I can't account for but I'm working my way through what you have done to understand how to do these things. I have another 14 scores to edit for my project - all Vivaldi mandolin and lute music, so I need to get good at this ;-) Thank you so much for your help

About "extra dots": They're staccatos. You could, as soon as the MIDI import panel was displayed, have the choice not to display them, by unchecking "Show staccato"
But you can still do it now, by right-clicking on one of them -> select -> all similar elements -> Del.
RV532- eighth1, staccatos.mscz

Eighth1 is exactly what I wanted. Can you tell me what the little hyphens are after the first note of each staff above the top line? In my default display they are blue, while the score is black? And may I ask, why you are called "cadiz" (my favourite city for carneval and tapas)?

Little blue hyphens is a way to indicate there is "Irregular measures" here, or forward in the score.
If preferred (but they won't print), you can hide them, in menu "View" -> untick "Mark Irregular Measures"
NB: for "cadiz", it's a too long story!

Thanks again - I have started from "my" version and created yours following your instructions and feel I have taken a very big step in my project. I am most grateful to you and everyone else on the forum who has been helping me for the short time I've been here.
