Is there a way to create a little half-bracket in Musescore to show LH vs RH notes on a single staff?
Is there a way to create a little half-bracket in Musescore to show LH vs RH notes on a single staff?
Specific I'm referring to the half-bracket in measure 3 indicated by the red arrow in the attached JPEG.
If so, how do I do this in Musescore?
Thanks!

Open the Master Palette (Z), make sure the you've selected Symbols in the left list.
Type play into the search filter and you'll find the symbol you're looking for. Apply it to the note, either by drag-and-drop or via double clicking it.
Change it's position using the Inspector (F8); a value of X: -0,50sp and Y:0,80sp should get you quite close for a normal note.

Thanks much jeetee! I see that this is the "play with right hand" symbol, while the printed notation is actually for the left hand (LH). Any idea off-hand why that might be the case? Seems odd to me they should say left hand and use the symbol for right hand.

If you use it on the lower staff, then it is the right hand symbol ;)
Using the right hand to include notes from the lower staff is a more common action. Moving the left hand over the right, less so.

Gotcha! Makes sense. They should rename to be more neutral, but I got it! Thanks!

You mean,
- insert some text of some kind from the Text palette,
- double click the text,
- go to Properties tab,
- click Insert special character...
- go to Musical tab,
- scroll to Keyboard techniques
- and there you have the symbols.
- insert it and drag it to where you want to place it.
Then you may want increase the font size to perhaps 16pt, because 10pt is rather small and thin on this particular symbol.
That's not a very user friendly way to do it, and I was hoping there would be an easier way. I think it's not very uncommon to use this symbol. And it would be nice if it would stick to a note, as I saw someone mention in another thread.

No, because @jeetee's original suggestion used the Master palette:
- select the note to attach to
- Shift+F9 to open Master palette
- select the Symbols tab
- search for "play"
- click desired symbol
- close Master palette (Esc key)
- select "play" symbol and adjust position with Properties > Appearance > Offsets

Thanks, that was a bit easier. I thought the Master palette was the one in the left pane, but clearly I was wrong.

See above for the correct procedure to add this the first time. Then if it's something you personally use a lot, you can also simply drag the symbol from the master palette to your own custom palette or the Keyboard palette for easy reuse. Different people find they use different symbols often, so MsueScore is designed to be easily customizable in that way to suit different needs.

Thnaks, that was very helpful.
