Typing a letter (abcdfg) to input a note activates note input mode
⇒
This never happened to me until after installing the most recent update. It makes using the letter-note-input feature inconvenient because it requires that I manually disable note input mode, as I never intended to enable it.

If this was intentional, I think it's a regressive change because if I'm selecting notes with my mouse in order to repitch them with a keyboard letter, it means I want NIM disabled so I can select notes with my mouse.

Sorry, obviously I'm having trouble with this commenting/reporting interface. For now I will revert to a previous version of the software. Could you enlighten me on why this is a feature? Am I correct that it was just added with the most recent update?

I'm not sure you understand my issue. I am happy with the fact that pressing a-g changes the note. I'm not happy when it enters "note-input-mode" as if I had pressed "n," which makes it so that I can no longer select notes with my cursor until I disable note-input-mode by pressing "n." This means I have to press "n" after every time I change a note with a-g. Until this latest update, the only ways to enter note input mode that I was aware of were pressing "n" or clicking the note-input-mode button in the upper left.
Now I'm using the most recent version, 3.3.4 or something. I'm not sure what my previous version was, but I think it was probably out of date because I'm not usually on this computer. However, on my main computer, which I try to keep up to date, I've never experienced this issue, so I assume it was a recent change or a bug

It has been that way ever since, even in MuseScore 2

Repitch mode is a note input mode and of course do a-g change the pitch to that note

There is no recent change as far as I can tell 2.3.2 and 3.3.4 behave the same here
What version are you using now and what before?
