Changing Intrument Ranges Permenantly

I apologize if this has been covered before but I couldn't find anything...

I realize I can set my Preferences to NOT color notes outside of the usable range, but is there any way to permanently change the range of a specific instrument so the range coloring feature can be utilized without having to reset the range for that instrument each time I load a score or for new scores?

2 options

  1. Create, modify and use a template
  2. Use a custom instruments.xml
  3. Report the instrument with the wrong range and wait for it to get fixed

A template modification (I should have know that) is entirely satisfactory for me to manage the issue for new scores (I already modified my template) and I can deal with the issue of modifying the range if need be on existing scores which would be no different step-wise than plugging in the custom instrument.

So thank you for that!

Where should I report the wrong range?
