Joining Measures on only one staff of the system

• Feb 14, 2020 - 15:42

In my screenshot, I'm trying to form a double bar repeat instead of just re-notating the bass part. To do this, there's a funny workaround involving joining measures: https://musescore.org/en/node/103336

The issue is, I can't seem to join only the bass measures. Instead, the measures on each staff of the system are joined together :/ It appears that this is just how it is: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/measure-operations (go to the bottom of the page underneath "Split and Join" to see).

Any ideas?

I think this is possible without joining measures, but needs a hindden staff with the notes for playback.
Or using a local time signature (double the duration of the normal one) and just for those affected measures

Thank you very much Jojo!

I went with the hidden staff method for playback. The photo below shows both the playback track (hidden in the final print of the score) and the visible Double repeat track.

In order to get the look of the double repeat symbol, I placed a single repeat symbol in each measure and disabled "Automatic Placement" for both. I then adjusted the "X Offset" until each symbol's bar would overlap the other symbol's dot, making it look like a clean double repeat symbol.
Using this system will take some adjusting, but is worth it to get a nice, readable score.
