Crossing a piano staff in one voice with an appoggiatura in another
Hi all,
I am having a spacing issue. When I combine a note with a trill+appoggiatura in voice 1 of a piano staff while also shifting a note from voice 2 across staves (to the left-hand staff), the appoggiatura in voice 1 glitches, spacing-wise. I tried disabling Autospace, though I don't know if I fully understand that feature. Any ideas?
~Jason

No, there were no edits except (Shift-Alt-Down) on the F4 to move it between staves.

I believe those are the 16th note hash marks from the 2 appoggiatura notes (see m. 1). The note heads seem to be misplaced in m.5

Yes, I think the marks you reference are from the original 16th note appoggiatura.

Similar. However, the 16th note appoggiaturas from my excerpt were created with the [Grace: 16th after] tool

I suspect that the spacing rules that include both a change of staff [Shift-Alt-Down] and a post-note appoggiatura may create this difficulty. It's an unusual, but not atypical situation, especially for a piano reduction of a Classical concerto accompaniment (as this is). Thank you so much for being a helpful person (HP), even if we don't find the solution to this tiny enigma :)

I think it's a bug, I can't find one if already reported (there is one for tablatures #303616: Layout problem with grace notes), but I'm using 3.2.3

Agree...it is most likely a bug (I'm using v. 3.42.9788) You are kind, thank you! ~Jason Fromme—Reno, NV [USA]

Looks like a bug indeed, grace notes after a note get messed up if there is an intervening beamed note in another voice that is then moved to another staff. But - only if the main note (the one to which the grace notes apply) happens within the time span of the beam group containing the moved note. That is, in your example, the bug goes away if I break the beam into that moved F. Both because that means the F isn't beamed at all, but also because the D is no longer within the time span of that beam.
Pretty obscure set of things that has to come together to make this happen. But worth submitting to the Issue tracker for sure - would you mind doing that (Support menu above, or Help / Report a Bug, from within MuseScore).
BTW, a viable workaround for this case is to rewrite that middle voice in the bottom staff, moving the top two notes up.

Thank you, Marc! Yes, I think your workaround is the way to go for now. I will send that report ~J
