space between staves
I wrote a quintet and the top staff is far removed from the bottom 4.
This does not always happen but how can I correct it?

Indeed, MuseScore 2.0.3 is quite outdated, better go to 2.3.2 and 3.4.2
I don't see any odd staff distance in neither of those.
But I don't see anything out of the ordinary when opening that score with 2.0.3?!?

I see the problem on the second system. It's because there is a pair of hairpins (crescendo and diminuendo) below the top staff that have been dragged way, way, way, below the staff. MuseScore is dutifully adding space below the staff to make room for these. Probably that was a mistake, the hairpins perhaps were meant to have been added to the second staff rather than added to the first then dragged? Hard to say. But anyhow, fix that and the extra space goes away. Same error on several other staves. Probably best to right click one of the hairpins, Select / All Similrt Elements, then hit Ctrl+R, to reset all these incorrectly adjusted hairpins back to their default positions.
