reading Musescore 3 files with Musescore 2

• May 2, 2020 - 21:49

I have read a number on posts fo people discussing using MS3 to read MS2 files, but I have a different problem.

When I started using musescore 3, I created a number of scores in it, and then, with some Musescore 3 update I discovered that it started to crash my computer repeatedly (blue screen erron in Windows 10).
I had to uninstall it and go back to using Musescore 2 version ( which is dependable) but I lost the capability of reading my later sheet music created with Musescore 3.

  1. Can you help with tips on how to?
  2. Is Musescore 3 more reliable now?

  1. You can't
You can export a MS3 score as MusicXML which can then be imported back into MuseScore 2.

  2. Perhaps and yes? Kind of hard to answer not knowing which version you've had before. But MS3 is at least as stable as MS2 and shouldn't ever create blue screens.

I also do wonder why you returned to MS2 then and not just to the previous MS3 version? I also can't find any posting of you prior to this describing the issue you've had?

  1. Start from MS3, use File → Export and choose the MusicXML format

  2. .com support rightly forwarded you to these forums, as this is the place to get support with the notation software (see https://musescore.org/en/faq#faq-20657 for a small explanation about that).
You seemingly had issues months ago, but apparently didn't know to reach out to us back then. It might've saved you quite some troubles back then..

Blue screen errors are definitely a real thing, not a hallucination, and every single time without fail it indicates a bug in Windows. Did you report the bug to Microsoft? If so, you should follow up with them to find out if it has been fixed yet. If you didn't report it to them yet, then almost certainly they have not fixed it.
