Where the heck do I download styles...

• Mar 12, 2016 - 03:52

I am running 2.0.2. on a Mac OS 10.11.3

I installed the latest version and looked in my documents folder for the Muse fold but it has nothing in it but empty folders... images... plugins...scores... etc.

Folders are there but they have nothing in them.

I have scoured the web to find where I can download MuseJazz.mss and other styles but can't find them anywhere.

I am usually not such an imbecile. What am I missing?

Thanks

T

What styles do you think you need? MuseScore creates empty folders for styles so you can create them yourself, but you normally wouldn't need any to be installed already. Maybe you have them confused weith *templates*? MuseScore creates an empty folder for you to create these yourself too, but it also provides a larger numenbr of tempaltes for you that you can see every time you create a new score. Similarly, there are some pre-installed plugins as well as amn empty folder for your to down and install your own if you like.

I'm not sure where you are reading about that, but it is not something you would ordinarily need. If you want to create jazz charts, start with one of the jazz templates - Jazz Lead Sheet, Jazz Combo, or Jazz Big Band. These templates come with MuseScore and you will see them every time you create a new score. They set up your style options to use the Musejazz font but do a lot more besides. You wouldn't normally need to mess with loading style files.

I think I got a handle on it. Just from some of the things I read I thought there were more customized styles that either came with the program or you could download.

I have created my own styles now and am pretty happy with them.

A pretty amazing program considering it is open source and free!

Thanks

Same problem here. I have version 2.0.3.1 running on a Mac and I have been trying to access the chord styles without success. The 'Styles' folder is empty and when I specify cchords_sym.xml via the 'custom' tab the diminished, half diminished and Maj7 chords do not show their symbols as they should.
The same thing happens when using a jazz template. Obviously the styles are missing; how do I go about downloading / creating / installing them?

Not sure what styles you are looking for. The old cchords_sym file is for 1.3 compatility only and is not needed for 2.0.3. Everything you need is controlled by Style / General / Chord Symbols - specify either Standard or Jazz. Either way, you can get the half-diminished symbol by typing "0", triangle with "t" or "^". The only difference between Standard and Jazz styles is the font used, superscripting, etc. If you are accustomed to using cchords_sym years ago in 1.3, just select Jazz style in 2.0.3 (or used any of the Jazz templates) and you're all set.

Thanks Marc. MuseScore is so intuitive I thought I must have missed something (like the handbook!). I just changed my 'Style' to 'Jazz' and retyped the chord as you suggested (I also found the diminished symbol which will be handy). After migrating from another computer architecture and another music software program, I have been much more productive with MuseScore.
Cheers.

Hi,

I'm a new user here. I've been using Finale for a while, but I would like to move over to MuseScore for the sharing and other features. I really love the fact that it has a reader on the iPad too!

My issue is that there's subtle differences in how the two programs draw the notation, and I prefer the thinner lines of Finale which give an overall cleaner and clearer look. (I already changed the font to that of Finale, which I also prefer). Check out the attached files. Is it just me or am I right that MuseScore uses thicker lines?

I can play around with the general style preferences, but it would be great if there were a few professional preset styles that I could just load up and apply to my imported scores, so I can choose something I like, and perhaps in the future tinker around with the precise thicknesses etc.

If anyone could help me out here, that would be great!

Thanks!

Yes but I'm looking for some presets, because I'm not a professional engraver, and don't know how all the different things affect the overall score... I could experiment but it will take along time, and it probably won't be as good as the preset I'm used to on Finale... Are there any downloadable styles? Thanks
