Chord beginning with a flat
I looked everywhere but cannot find an answer to this. I want to write the unconventional chord " (b[flat symbol]9) ". The previous chord was "D9" then the next should be "(b9)" flat the 9 in parentheses. Everytime I try to type this it turns it into a B. Is there a way to do this, or do I have to write the full chord out "(Db9)"?

This is definitely non-standard notations and most musicians looking at it would probably be confused, but if you don't mind explaining it or know that this notation is accepted among the circle of musicians you work with, you could force MuseScore to do this by entering it as plain text instead of as a chord symbol, then using ther flat sing from the special characters palette (press F2 while typing your text).

I'm aware it's not standard, this is a old handwritten song from 1989 that I'm transcribing. I was trying to keep the same with the original, but I'll just write the full chord :)
