.xml File Not Opening

• Jun 14, 2016 - 00:03

I am taking a Music Theory class at my community college and during class, and I used Sibelius 7 in the computer lab to write a little 8 bar étude type thing for my final. I wanted to work on it some more outside of class, so I exported the .sib to a .xml and dropped it into my google drive. I downloaded the .xml to my home computer, a mac, and tried to open it. When I tried, I was prompted with

"File ....xml is not a valid MusicXML file
Do you want to try to load this file anyway?"

When I clicked Yes, it opened a blank score. When I clicked Show Details, I was prompted with

"Fatal error: line 1 column 1 Encountered incorrectly encoded content."

When I uploaded the .xml from the school lab, it was a 1.2mb file, but when I downloaded it today at home, it's only 32kb or so.

What went wrong and/or can I fix it? or do I have to go back to the class and redo the whole process again?

Are you sure you exported this to XML? It kind of looks like this is an actual Sibelius file just renamed to end in XML instead of SIB. It's definitely nowhere close to being any sort of XML file. If it were, you could open it in a text editor and read it, but try it and see what you get...

I think you need to find that 1.2 MB file that you exported; this one is something entirely different.
