How do I insert a MIDI keyboard? I need better instructions.
OS: Mas OSX El Capitan
Keyboard: YAMAHA PSR400
MuseScore: MuseScore 2.0.3

Not sure what you mean by "insert", but if you mean you wish to use the keybaord to enter notes, the instructions are pretty simple:

1) plug in keyboard
2) turn on keyboard
3) start musescore
4) start or create a score
5) enter note input mode
6) select a duation
7) play a note

Then repeats steps 6 & 7 over and over.

As mentioned, it does indeed connect automatically if you do it in the order I said (first connect & power on the keyboard, then start MuseScore).

As for how to enter notes, it works just as I described above: enter note input mode, select a duration, play a note on your keybaord to enter that note with the selected duration. Enter notes one at a time by continually repeating those last two steps: select duration, play a note. Just as the Handbook describes in the section on note input.

Marc was was talking about a piano keyboard too (i.e. a MIDI keyboard). You need to plug the keyboard in to your computer using a MIDI to USB adapter (like this one) and then turn it on *before* you start MuseScore. If you do that then MuseScore should indeed connect to it automatically. If it doesn't work automatically then let us know.

Please note, you need to connect the keyboard's MIDI-OUT to the adapter's MIDI-IN and vice versa. It will not work if you connect MIDI-IN to MIDI-IN or MIDI-OUT to MIDI-OUT. If you find that confusing then think of it like a telephone - you want your input (a microphone) to be connected to my output (a speaker), not my input.
