Yikes! problems installing 1.0

• Jul 26, 2011 - 05:08

I am not a professional computer person so this is way too much work. You may have a great product some day so keep at it.

I am on Linux and I uninstalled 9.6 no upgrade option. Then manually downloaded 1.0 extracted the files and moved them to the oem directory then followed the README instructions. No luck tried the "make clean" and retry option again zip..

Suggestions.

I was sorry to read that you will not be supporting these files extensions in the future. I have been down this path with both purchased and free software before. Writing out music by hand really is the fastest way in the long run...

MuseScore is in beta state. That means you should not use
it for any mission critical work. It is incomplete and surely has
a lot of bugs. Also the save format (*.mscx and *.mscz files) will
most likely change in future versions. :>)

Where specifically are you seeing that message, then? That is, what are you doing that causes it to be displayed?

Bottom line, it almost defintely shouldn't be saying that. While it is true that in the experimental builds there are never any guarantees that files created in one build with work in another, as I said, they work hard to make sure that's not the case for the actual releases.

Aside from the spurious warning message, are you having some sort of other problem installing 1.0? It isn't clear what those might be from your message.

As for ease of using MuseScore versus writing by hand, I'd say there is a learning curve with any software, but once you get the hang of it, there is no going back. It's not only more efficient, but you can get far better results, plus capbilities - like playback, automatic transposition, score sharing, etc - that are just not possible otherwise.

Perform the following commands in a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal)

sudo apt-add-ppa repository: mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install musescore
