Remove automatic note entry after duration change
Currently, a note duration change flips to note entry mode. This is counterintuitive and should not happen. Optionally, make this subject to a global setting that throttles all automatic note entry; or remove all cases where note entry begins automatically. Many users would prefer note entry ONLY when explicitly requested.

I don't see this, selecting a note, outside note entry mode, and pressing any of the keys to change duration (1-9 in num pad or the top row of the normal Keyboard) changes the Duration but does not Change into note entry mode.
Windows 7/10, 2.0.3 as well as current master
Neither do I. (Ubuntu 16.04, MS 2.1 .fra65f06b)
However it occurs if you change the height using a letter key (not a arrow key)
You mean the pitch and by (English) note name? Yes then it does change into note entry mode (and for good reason, IMHO). Maybe it should better (additionally) go into re-pitch mode in that case
Apologies, I can't duplicate this either. I don't know whether I imagined this or found some strange corner-case. I have been dealing with frequent annoying flips into note-entry mode while adding chord notes to existing voices...which is a similar usage issue for me, but that is obviously not related to duration changes. It still seems to me that going into note entry mode while editing an existing measure is a surprising action, and I would argue that this is not desirable. However that is a discussion for the forum and not for the issue tracker. Until I can duplicate the duration change behavior I'll withdraw this request.
I can't help making a general observation: I think "intuitive" is too soft a concept to be useful (it was heavily used by Apple as a sales pitch--like sales pitches more generally it did not have to have any defined meaning for it to work--as a sales pitch that is). It means that it relates to something already vaguely present in the user's mind--based on earlier experience and not necessarily with computers.
Which means that one person's "intuitive" is often someone else's "totally incomprehensible". There are--among others--visual types and abstract thinker types; they'll have entirely different ideas about "intuitive". It is more sensible to settle for "logical" and "internally consistent" to facilitate the learning curve for software tools.
Yes, a valid point, 'intuitive' is a weasel-word. I will try to be more precise when I encounter some behavior that seems non-orthogonal, inconsistent, etc. Whenever I am surprised due to my action causing an unexpected and seemingly unrelated system reaction, I see this as 'non-intuitive'; but I agree that the details are what matters.
For the way I like to work while writing something new, not editing or changing something, it would be useful to have a way of temporarily turning off Note Entry Mode. This is not possible?
It's certainly possible. The same toolbar button and shortcut (N) that turns on note input mode also turns it off.
In the future, better to ask questions in the forums (http://musescore.org/en/forum) than on closed issues like this one.
Yes, I understand that. I'd rather not have to tell the program to leave this mode after every action. Why is it set to go on again automatically, again and again and again? If I want a mode, I'll choose it, right? :)
Sorry, I didn't know this issue was closed.
Thank you.
