Insert other instrument "on fly"

• Jul 13, 2016 - 11:58

Hi to all
as musician/composer, very often I must insert different instrument during composition.
I konw that this can be obtained with hide/show empty measures... but isn't very useful!
Could be possible to insert new instrument between pre-existing instrument score?
For example:
I wrote a complete pianoforte score, but now I must insert (for example) a percussion from 34th and 56th bar.
To obtain it simply, could fast select 34Th to 56th bars and choice Instrument-percussion to insert... without being forced to hide/show empty measures.

Could be possible to apply it?

Are you by chance trying to hide measures individually? That would indeed be difficult. But using Style / General / "Hide empty staves" takes only seconds - it is *very* useful!

If I understand you correctly, you are asking how to insert two measures of percussion in the middle of a piano part. This would be unusual, but if the composer requires the pianist to play those two measures himself, it might be the most logical approach. You can change the form of the noteheads by using the inspector (F8). Select the notes, click on 'Notes' at the bottom of the Inspector panel, then select the type of notehead you want from the 'Head group' menu.

There is a method of changing the instrument playback sound assigned to a staff; the link to the handbook page for that is posted in an earlier message. I don't know of a way to change the piano grand staff into an actual percussion staff in mid-piece, however.
