How to increase the gap under a page number?
Is there a standard way to increase the vertical gap between a page number in a header to the staff below it?
So far I've figured out an alternative: in the Header's text style I can make negative the vertical placement and then increase what was originally the page margin in the page settings.

Does increasing Style ->General -> Page ->Music top margin achieve what you want?
It's basically a dance between the top margin in the Layout / Page Settings, the music top margin in Style / General / Page, and the offset given in the Header text style. The specifics depend on the exact effect you are trying to achieve.

Yes, the music top margin mainly does it. I had originally altered this field with no seen results, but I was on the first page with a default vertical title frame.Going back I noticed the following pages have the altered results. This and the interplay with the page header settings seems to be what I wanted.
