Extracting parts

• Jul 27, 2016 - 22:08

After creating a score for a piece for alto saxophone and piano, I extracted the saxophone part. The resulting pdf saxophone part does not match the score. The notes and rhythms are the same, but the articulations differ in many places. How can that be? How do I get it to match?

Also, please describe more fully what you actually did. Did you generate parts using File / Parts? How did you then generate the PDF? When you say it doesn't match the score, do you mean the PDF doesn't match the part, or the part doesn't doesn't match the score? You wouldn't normally compare the PDF to the score directly - it is generated from the part, not the score of course.

File / Parts does not automatically produce PDF's. If you have PDF's on your system, it must be from something else, which would explain why they don't match. File / Parts only produces a part within the score - you would then need to export from the parts, or use File / Export Parts *after* generating the parts to create PDF's.

If the only problem is length of slurs, then my guess is you did not create the slurs properly - you might have tried dragging the endpoints to make them *appear* like they covered 4 notes, but they were still attached to the second note. To extend a slur over multiple notes, you need to do it one of the ways described in the Handbook under "Slurs" - eg, press Shift+right, or select the notes *before* adding the slur, or enter the slur while still in note entry mode using "S" to start and stop the slur. Dragging is for fine tuning the position only, and this indeed won't make sense for the parts.

Hopefully that allows you to figure out what went wrong. If not, in order to help further, we would need you to post the specific score you are having problems with and give precise steps to reproduce the problem.
