Mute Playback
Would be possible for the developers of MuseScore to make mute playback? Sometime brass instruments had to use mutes sometimes, such as cup mute and straight mutes are used.

This needs support by the corresponding sound in the soundfont. General MIDI does define mute for trumpets, and MuseScore can use that, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/mixer#mid-staff-change (which shows how to change violon to pizzicato, but the same principle works for trumpets and mute)
Only one standard soundfont sound exists for muted brass - a trumpet - and musescore implements that. If you've got your own sounds, you can use change instrument to access it.
Or be really sneaky, add all of your instruments as trumpets, change the staff names, transposition, and mixer to what you really want, and then you can use the trumpet mute channel for your muted trombone soundfont. If you post your score to the site, it'll all sound like piano, though.
Musescore would have to create it's own soundfont to get non-standard sounds like gongs and muted brass. It's more difficult than a coding issue.
