Dynamics and Voices Question
Hey, everyone.
I'm writing a score for a symphonic band. In this particular piece, I have quite a few solos. My problem lies in the fact that while some of the solos are going on, the non-soloists in the same section are playing an accompaniment. I almost always notate solos like this as at least two dynamic levels louder than the accompaniment.
For example, I wrote a 1st Alto Saxophone solo, and the non-soloist 1st Altos are still playing. I want to notate the solo as forte and the other altos as mezzopiano. However, Musescore won't play back different dynamics for different voices. It sounds them both as mezzopiano. Is there a way to do this that I have not yet seen?

If you have them on the same staff, MS will apply the same dynamic to the whole staff. There is no way to differentiate between voices. If you want to alter their volumes (as you do) I believe you will be able to do this is they are on different staves.

While you might not be able to get a dynamic marking to apply automatically to individual voices, you can use Note Properties to override the velocity. I suspect you'll find that easier to do, thou, if you create the solo part as separate staff, apply the velocity change, then copy the contents of that staff pnto the regular staff. Because it can be awkward trying to select just the contents of one voice for a given range of measures. Some day, I expect there will be a better facility to working with selections and individual voices in MuseScore. Meanwhile, though, I am thinking one could probably develop a plugin to cover some of the more common tasks.

I would greatly appreciate a useful tool to split dynamics and voices on the same staff. Just ran into this problem, and would love a fix to it.
