In general:

The default is that beats three and four are beamed together despite the presence of the sixteenth (I think that's not the most appropriate default, but that's another issue). So the moment you enter that sixteenth, it should still have been beamed to the previous note. The only problem is that the note on four is also beamed. So immediately after entering that note, either double click the start of beam icon, or use a keyboard shortcut to do the same. I can never remember what the defaults are because I have customized many of mine (Edit->Preferences->Shortcuts), but the end result is a single extra keypress when entering the note to break that beam. Similarly, if a note I have just entered is *not* beamed to the previous note when I want, another shortcut activates "middle of beam" and joins it.
