Bug on "show/hide empty staffs"

• Jan 12, 2012 - 13:12

Hi, I'm experiencing a little bug, while writing this piece. Everything ok until i select "hide empty staffs", then from bar 15 to the end, the clarinet staff has no barlines, no final barline. If I select "show empty staffs" again, everything back to normal. I attach a screen of the problem, and the musescore file for the piece. Musescore 1.1 on Ubuntu. Thanks

Yes, there are unfortunatley a couple of known issues with hiding empty staves that involve barlines, such as this one:

http://musescore.org/en/node/6107

and see also the discussion thread linked to there. Basically, it doesn't work right if it it the top staff of a system that is hidden and/or if you have extended barlines through the staves.

As with most bugs reported against 1.3, most issues affecting Hide Empty Staves have been fixed for the upcoming (no, there is no official date yet) 2.0 release. There may be some bugs left remaining of course, so if the feature is important to you, you may wish to download a an experimental nightly build (see Download link at right of this page) and test for yourself, and report any remaining bugs you find to the Issue Tracker. Do a search first to make sure they aren't already reported - there are a handful of issues relating to Hide Empty Staves still there, mostly relatively minor. But tempo and system text, which worked for a while, apparently broke again at some point.

Thanks, it's interesting to know, I'm in the middle of a "notation" battle (lots of fun) with a friend of mine, also music teacher (finale user). He sends me challenges as finale scores and I send them back as Ms scores to check the limits of Musescore. He is amazed how little is the difference between them. (Keeps asking: can you do this, and this? hehe)
