How to make an obligato?

Does MuseScore support obligatos? Or do I have to create an entire new instrument staff? I couldn't find anything in the manual. Thanks

Mot sure what you mean by obligato in this context (the word has several conflciting meanings). Sounds like perhaps you are referring to an ossia - a short passage that gives an alternative for a given passage and looks like just one measure (or a short range of measures) pasted onto the score. Or else perhaps you mean a part that is only active for part of the time, so you don't want to show all the reats during the portions where that part isn't being played. The latter is easy - create the part normally, then use Hide Empty Staves to make it not show except when needed. The former is not supported well, but if you search for the term "ossia" on this site, you'll find some workarounds.

It's a hymn arrangement, and between the verses I want an instrumental section. So if I could have a "temporary" staff for a supplemental part that plays only between verses without adding an entire new instrument staff, that's what I would be looking for.

The end result is the same, though, and it's not like "adfing an entire new instrument staff" actually takes more work than adding it to just one system would. In fact, the latter wold be *more* work, because you would have to specify which system(s) you wanted the staff added to, where the current way doesm't require that additiona step. Also, comsider what would happen if you ever changed the layout of the score such that it changed where the system breaks happened - what wolud happen to the extra staff then? There's a reason pretty much all notation programs do it this way - it ends up being a lot more straightforward.
