Importing MIDI - Editing Staves

• Dec 11, 2016 - 11:47

I am importing a simple midi file with 3 tracks - melody line, guitar notes, piano accomp. I would like the melody and guitar parts as individual treble clef staves, and the piano a treble/bass clef.

However, the melody and guitar are importing as a treble/bass clef. How can I fix this? I have not been able to edit it. They need to be split to two clefs and both set as treble clefs.

Thanks
Geoff

In order to do better than guess, we would need you to attach the MIDI file you are having trouble with. Normally, those instruments should import as single staves automatically, so there must be something unusual about your file and thus there might be something unusual you need to do to fix it. We'd have to see the file to know for sure.

I hope this can help.

When loading a midi file, a palette shines in all its beauty under the new score. That palette shows the options that MuseScore uses to convert the midi performance into sheet music. If you have a look at those options, you will find an entry that says something like "Split Staff" (I use the italian version of MuseScore, so it looks like "Dividi pentagramma"). If that checkbox is set, your midi file will be imported in its two-staves version; if it's not set, your midi file will be imported in its single-staff version. Each time you check/uncheck the box, you have to push the "Apply" button ("Applica" in the italian version).

Have a look at the examples below.
