score transfer

• Feb 22, 2012 - 17:52

I copied the score to a USB device and plugged the device into another PC. The Musescore 1.1 in that PC cannot located the score in the USB device. Why?

Comments

Maybe the usb device is knackered

Have you tried running CHKDSK or equivalent on the offending USB drive?

If it is a pen drive then be aware that they are only regarded reliable for a fixed number of writes.

If you have exceeded this number then the device may well be unstable and need replacing.

Also, be sure you copied the actual score file, and not the backup or some other file. The backup begins with a period and ends with a comma. Can you see the file in Explorer / Finder whatever file browser you would normally use?

The Musescore program saves its file to My Document of my PC and this is the file in my PC MY Document that I transfer to my USB drive. But this transferred file cannot be opened by Musescore in another PC. The score in My Document can be opened by the Musescore of the PC. So I don't think there is any problem with the file. If I upload this score to Musescore.com and download this file to another PC, the Musescore in that PC can open the score. So why the score cannot be transferred through a USB?.

Can you read this file from the USB drive with your FIRST PC? (the one you used to copy the file to the USB drive in the first place).

Can you copy to the USB ANOTHER MuseScore file and read it with that same PC?

If not, either the USB drive has a scrambled file system or you copied the wrong file or... I don't know!

Musescore saves score files in file type Compressed Musescore file. These files can be opened by Musescore program. But when I transfer and store these files in USB, the transfered files are saved in file type MSCZ. Musescore cannot recognize these file type and therefore cannot open them. I don't why.

MSCZ *is* the compressed score format.

Again, are you *sure* these are the original files, and not the backup copies (which wold begin apwith a period and end with a comma)? Can you post a screen shot showing the folder listing of the USB drive? You say MuseScore cannot load the files - does it give you an error message? What happens if you double click on one of the files while viewing the folder lsiting in Explorer?

After a few trial and error, fiddling with saving and opening files, I was able to save created Musecore files only in Compressed Musecore file format but not the MSCZ. I still don't know what has changed or what I had done wrong in the first place. . Thanks you all for your responses !
