having trouble adding a lineto an extended syllable to a lyric

Hi all, I'm having trouble deleting a lyric hyphen. If I originally write a note and add lyrics with a hyphen, then go back and delete the note and the lyric, I can't seem to remove the hyphen that gets left behind. Lasso select does nothing. The only solution is to delete the whole measure and then paste back the notes.
Is there any way to remove the pesky lyric hyphen or line left behind??
