make multi-measure rests narrower or wider without adding or removing extra measures?

I don't want to add more measures to the line I'm working on. I just want the multi-measure rest take up less space and leave more room for actual notes for readability's sake.

I tried { and } but to no avail. I just want to even things out a little.

Thanks

Be sure to select the full multimeasure rest (as mentioned above - the measure, not just the symbol), then use { or }. They should work and do for me. Note each press only adjusts things a little, but you can keep pressing multiple times. If you are finding some case where they don't seem to work, please attach the score you are having problems with and describe the issue in more detail (which measure are you selecting, are you pressing { or }, etc).

In a stave with notes and mm rests on either side, it is like trying to balance a see-saw hammering on the { } keys to try and force the MM rests down to minimum - do it on one side of the notes and the mm rest on the other side expands! It would be great to have the option to "set the width of a multi-measure rest bar to minimum" so that the notes can take all of the stretch.

(This has come up in the past, but nothing seems to have changed.)

I'm not quite sure I understand. In what way does it not work to decrease the stretch on both of the mmrests? Works fine for me. Or, conversely, increase it on the measures with content. Can you attach a specific score you are having trouble with and give precise steps to reproduce the problem?
