Annoying fuzziness in Musescore playback.

• Jan 9, 2017 - 01:05

When I play a score that seems to be just a bit louder than mute, on playback I get this extremely annoying white noise/fuzziness sound. I thought there was a problem with my sound card, but when I export the score into a WAVE or OG file and listen, the fuzziness is gone and it sounds clear as day. Also, I find no fuzziness on anything I listen to except Musescore. This is how I came to find out that it's totally just musescore. Is there anyway to fix this? It's extremely annoying and I can't even try to perfect the sound of my score without exporting it.

I find if I turn up the volume in MuseScore's play panel (hit F11) all the way up it does this... have you checked that the one there is down, and then turn up your Windows one?

Either the play panel (mentioned above) or maybe the synthesizer volume (View / Synthesizer) itself is probably turned up too far and is clipping. Or maybe you've turned instruments up to the max in the Mixer, having the same effect. You're better off leaving volume at their defaults. Consider running Help / Revert to Factory Settings.

If that doesn't fix it, please attach the score you are having trouble with, and also say what soundfont you see listed in View / Synthesizer. If you can capture a recording of the bad audio so much the better.
