tying lower voice notes
it is not letting me put ties between notes on the lower voice. how would i do this? thanks.

Same way as any other ties. Have you read the handle entry on how to create a Tie ? While in note entry mode, enter a note, then select the value you want to extend it by, then hit +. Or, enter the two notes separately, then while not in note entry mdoe, select the first and hit +.
Also, you might want to watch some of the excellent tutorial videos you can access from the main musescore.org page - they answer a lot of these sort of basic note entry questions.
