As you said there is a bug report already #13896: [Mac] Cannot insert sharp on chords, no need to open a new one.
MuseScore is open source, if you can code, you can make a fix for yourself and share it. The code is here https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore and instructions to compile here: http://musescore.org/en/development
If you can't code, add your constructive ideas for a fix in the current existing issue, and be patient... Or find a way to motivate someone with the skills to make a fix for you...
