Learning material for SATB singers

• Mar 24, 2017 - 11:12

Is there a nice way to create some kind of easy learning material for a choral song: for singers who are willing to learn by themselves but find it difficult to hear their part in the overall arrangement?

I have not been a great fan of such materials unless really necessary, so I have not learned to do this in Musescore.
I have a SATB song with S and A divisi: SSAATB. And I think the singers would like to hear their parts individually, or preferably with other voices but highlighted.

And I assume that they would not install MuseScore themselves for it, but would like to hear it from their web browser or mp3-player.

Do you have any suggestions?

Since the singers will not be using MuseScore themselves, the best way to go about this is to put each voice on its own line. If you have multiple voices on one line, then you need to go into instruments (press i) and add a line for the voice directly under the voice with the notes. If you have three voices on a line then add two directly under it. Then use the edit->tools->explode to put the notes on their own staves. This gives you the ability to adjust the volume on the other voices when you export it to an MP3 file. To adjust the volume on a part, open the mixer (F10) and adjust the volume on the parts until they are how you want them. You can then go to file->export and save it as an MP3 or any of the other formats available that you like.

Here are some links that might help you.

Maybe, (for now)*
for div.: use two staves. (for now)*
Translator (transcriber, or who responsible for) create separate parts for members. (File > Parts.)

After this step, you can do whatever you want. Export (mp3, ogg, pdf).
Because you have separate parts.
You can even play at Musescore.com.

PS: Since it is learning material and works separately, it is useful to create separate parts. (and staves for div.) //There will be no such problems for master members. (of choir)

*Maybe future versions supports this.

After you've created as mentioned each voice in a single staff, you can also change the dynamics (maybe "Forte" for the voice part, "Piano" for the other voices), so that the own voice will played louder but the singer will also hear the other voices in the background. Export this as mp3.
Repeat this for each voice.

If you upload an open score (one staff per voice) on MuseScore.com, then you can just share the MuseScore link and they can change the mixing of the voice in the 3 dots menu > Mixer. This is only available because you are pro member, and you uploaded the score.

Thank you all very much for your comments - everything was really helpful.
Just now, I used the option for people to use the mixer themselves - had to save the file in MuseScore 2 before, but then it seemed to work.
Another time, I will separate divisi parts if really necessary.
Anyway, problem solved!
