MuseScore closes unexpectedly

• Jan 26, 2013 - 23:48

I open the application and I begin to create or edit an then I get a window stating:

mscore.exe has stopped working
A problem has caused the program to stop working. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution if available.

I get this every time I open it. I have restarted my computer as well as uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. I really have to get this project done. Please Help!

Hi Kristy -

What version of MuseScore are you using and what OS?

Is this just one particular MuseScore file, or any of them? If it's just one, can you please post it here?

If MuseScore comes up at all, can you try Revert to factory settings? (It should be described in the handbook. I'm not at my home pc right now to try it.)

Have you recently installed any new hardware or software?

Thanks,

Fifist

I am on a windows vista OS. I just realized that there was a misplaced character that had been accidentally inserted somehow (it was an odd looking symbol). When I deleted it everything started operating fine. Hope this helps someone else though! Thanks for the help though!

I just had a similar thing happen. I added a bunch of measures (control>B). After adding a few measures of notes I noticed some phantom rests. While trying to delete the rests Musescore crashed, losing me a half hour's work. There's clearly something amiss but saving more often is a good idea.

You are aware MuseScore saves a backup? The frequency of that action set in Preferences.

Mine is set to every 2 minutes.

Relaunching Musescore after a crash should result in a window popping up asking if you want to restore the last session.

The backup is stored in the same directory as the file you are working on, and has a comma added to the file suffix.
