Rhythm Cues

• Feb 17, 2013 - 05:55

Hello all,

As a new user of Musescore, I was wondering if there is a way to my rhythm cues above the staff. Often time in jazz parts, there is an underlying rhythm to the melody, often dictated by smaller dashes above the bar line. Does anyone know if there is a way to insert those in the program?

Thank you all!

If I understand what you want correctly, you can notate the rhythms in the staff, raise them to above the staff, "make invisible" the leger lines, you can switch stem direction and use "Noteheads" to select the "slash notation".

What os? And at what point did you get the error?

While it works to install into the actual program folder (eg, C:\Program Files\MuseScore\plugins on Windows), it is probably better to install into your local folder - C:\Users\\AppData\LocalMusE\MuseScore\plugins on Windows).

Can't remember how much detail I go into in my lead sheet tutorial, but the way to use this is enter notes for the rhythms in voice 3 (so stems will be up by default), select the region, run the plugin, and select the "accent" option. You'll then probably want to adjust some of the stems of the "regular" notes in voice 1, since those will now flip up by default.

I figured out how to put cues into the scores - thanks so much.

My next question is how do you make ledger lines invisible? I had to move the cues up a bit so that they didn't interfere with the melody.

I don't think you can make a ledger line invisible. If you could, it would be right click, set invisible just like anything else, but there doens't seem to be a way to right click just the ledger line.

However, you can use Edit Mode to move the notehead visually. So instead of actually changing the pitch of the note, double click it and arrow it upwards. This will cause it to display higher without adding a ledger line. It will look like the stem is not following the notehead, but it will when you hit Esc. to leave Edit Mode.
