Adding additional staves
I am new to Musescore so please bare with me. I created a new score page for using a "Steel Guitar". It came in and I added notes to the staff but cannot seem to get additional staves to come in. Please help.

Additional staves, like additional intruments? Or just more measures for the current instrument?
The former is Menu -> Create -> Instruments, the latter Menu -> Create -> Measures -> Append Measures...

The menu is the same as any other program: usually a row at the top of screen that reads "File Edit View Add Notes..." etc.

of course! thanks. But ... I don't see "Create" in the menu. I see: File Edit View Add Notes Layout Style Plugins Help.
I was trying to change the overall tempo / bpm of the whole score. It is not inherently obvious that changing the actual number value in the Tempo marking changes the Tempo / bpm. I assumed adding Tempo 'text' was just that: adding text. I searched for "Musescore change tempo" and "Musescore change bpm" and all I have seen so far are instructions to add text - not an actual tempo/ bpm value the software would implement. BUT NOW I GET it - it is just like adding dynamics (eg: mp - makes the sound actually go mezzo piano - not just adding text. Thanks!

For the record, the menu was called "Create" in older versions, but it is called "Add" in current versions.
Also, in general, keep in mind, the primary purpose of MuseScore is to create *notation* - something for human musicians to read. So yes, the usual way to do anything is to add the notation as a human musician would need to see it, and then most likely the automatic computer-generated playback will try to do the same.
If you want to add more bars, go to > Create > Measures and add them. New staves will be created automatically.
You probably want to add more measures indeed. The shorcut is Ctrl + B or Cmd + B on a mac. Once you added more measures, you can select a barline and press return to force MuseScore to start a new line here.
