It plays in RehearScore, which is software for working with orchestrations for productions.

Are there *other* programs besides RehearScore that can open this file? It is possible it is in the proprietary format used by that program. But it doesn't seem to be a valid MIDI file according to any of the software I have on my system either.

Probably that program gives you the option of saving in its own format *or* exporting to MIDI, and last year you chose the MIDI option but for this file you did not. I would guess if you loaded back into RehearScore and exported as MUFI it would work.

May be this file is application specific (not a real midi file).

according to FAQ:

Question: Where are the MIDI files located?
Answer: Like the RehearScore®PLUS application, the songfiles associated with RehearScore®PLUS are proprietary information and are not accessible except from within the RehearScore®PLUS program
